Giuseppe Cannizzaro Immigration RecordsDeparted Palermo aboard the S.S. Canada on October 27, 1912. Arrived New York November 9, 1912 (13 days). Lucia Parisi, age 8; Giuseppe Cannizzaro, age 57; Stella Parisi, age 56; Giovanni Cannizzaro, age 16. Giuseppe's occupation appears to be "Iron Monger"; Stella is his wife; Giovanni's occupation may be "Lab" for Laborer. While Giuseppe and Giovanni can read and write, Lucia and Stella cannot. They all came from Militello and their point of contact there is Giuseppe and Stella's son Salvatore Cannizzaro (Lucia's uncle). This is somewhat confusing because Giuseppe's son should be Sebastiano, not Salvatore. But, they all turn up on the 1920 Federal Census, living at 122 Cherry Street in Manhattan: Joseph (Giuseppe), Mary (Stella), Salvatore, Michael and Lucy (Lucia). They all have tickets to their final destination. Giuseppe appears to have $200 in cash (Lucia $5). None of them have been in the U.S. before. Lucia is going to her father, Salvatore Parisi, who lives on Chrystie Street in Manhattan, which is not far from Cherry Street. The others are going to Giuseppe and Stella's son, who lives on Cherry Street. They are all in good health. They were all born in Militello. Giuseppe is 5' 4" tall, with a dark complexion, gray hair, and chestnut (brown) eyes. Stella and Giovanni are both 5' 3" tall with rosy complexions. Stella has gray hair while Giovanni has chestnut hair. They both have chestnut eyes. |
