Rosalia "Rose" Toscano Immigration Record

Rosalia

Many thanks to Gonzalo Membrana for sending me this document.

It shows that ROSA TOSCANO, age 21, sailed from Naples, Italy aboard the S. S. Duca Degli Abbruzzi on February 5, 1920.
She arrived in New York City on February 23, 1920. She was single and worked as a domestic (housewife crossed out).
She could neither read nor write. Her last residence was in Militello with her Aunt Maria Campagna.
She was travelling with members of the Mellone and Campagna families, including her Aunt Maria Campagna and sister Maria Mellone.
Someone penciled in the notation that Rosa was an "adopted child".

The next section of the document shows that Rosa is going to her "brother Santo"
at 5 Monroe Street. She is 5' 2" tall with brown hair and eyes. She was born in Catania.

15-year-old Maria Mellone is also going to her brother Santo at same address, and for 54-year-old Maria Campagna,
Santo is her son. Santo it turns out is Santo Mellone, living with his wife Annie on Monroe Street.
